Aether Chronicles: Fey Lore — Last synced: 2026-04-03

The Feywilds, also known as the Plane of Faerie, serves as the parallel plane inhabited by all Fey.

Key precautions when interacting with Fey:

  • Avoiding gifts or food from Fey unless their intentions are verified as benign
  • Never disclosing your complete name to Fey; aliases or first names suffice
  • "Fey HATE Pure Iron" and experience it as burning, though steel doesn't affect them
  • Exercising caution with promises and deals
  • Obtaining clear understanding of any agreement terms before committing
  • Refraining from requesting favors

The Fey language is Sylvan, and any deal requires out-of-character consent.

The Feywilds exist as a parallel plane within the Astral Bubble. The outer ring, the Astral border crossing, provides the most stable transit near nexus points. Deeper penetration into the Feywilds moves beyond the Astral Bubble, making nexus access impossible and navigation increasingly hazardous for non-natives.

Courts and special locations exist outside the Bubble, while the Wilds remain inside it.

Entry methods include Fey Portals, archways, forest borders like the Copper Forest, and mushroom circles.

What are Fey?

Major Fey factions include:

Faerie/Fairy: Primarily pixie-form with humanoid variants featuring wings and Fey Magic attributes

Hags: Dark fey witch practitioners employing haunting magic, typically appearing as older women with shape-shifting capabilities

Eladrin: Elemental elves tied to seasonal and celestial cycles, adorned in corresponding colors

Owlin: Cautious owl-kin collectors of refined stardust in hidden wilderness pockets

Satyrs: Nomadic entertainment seekers following the wilds

Many possess Fey Magic abilities. Power hierarchies exist among Fey, with some engaging in cannibalism of weaker individuals. Contracts demand particular vigilance, though some Fey operate ethically.

Fey-touched beings—original species transformed by extended Feywilds exposure—retain their base species with additional Fey characteristics. Half-fey races represent creative possibilities.

Fey Spirit

Fullblooded Fey: Possess spirits connecting them to the Feywilds rather than souls

Half-Fey/Fey-Touched: Maintain Feywilds connection through spirits, with potential souls corresponding to non-fey ancestry

Fey Death

Deceased Fey release their magic and spirit back to the Feywilds. Half-Fey and Fey-Touched follow similar patterns while their non-fey components either dissipate or transition to chosen afterlives. This doesn't modify standard Aether Death rules.
