Overview
The Fell family represents elite hunters specializing in monster elimination and magical artifact containment. The organization distinguishes between "Born Fells" (members by birth) and "Found Fells" (those who prove their worth later).
The family operates through four primary branches identified by middle names: Igneous, Sage, Atamai, and Dao. Although each branch maintains its own leadership, all members defer to the family Heads—elder members whose authority remains absolute despite their retirement from active combat.
Weapons And The Right Of The Forge
Every Fell anticipates receiving a Living Weapon through the Right Of The Forge (TROTF), a perilous ritual limited to candidates deemed worthy by family leadership.
The process unfolds in stages:
Pilgrimage Phase: Selected candidates travel on foot to Mount One carrying only basic supplies and specialized pickaxes to extract the Ore Of One—a gold-hued material with bronze-like coloration.
Imprinting Phase: Following ore collection, candidates receive a nameless metal doll wrapped in crimson cloth. They then spend two days in special hot springs while "keeping the doll on you at all times during the 2 day duration," maintaining constant contact throughout this ritual period.
The Forge: Blindfolded candidates enter the Forge carrying only their doll, personal clothing, and a talisman. They must endure three days within caverns filled with fire and demonic entities. Survivors emerge with a Living Weapon—a tool that provides what wielders need rather than desire, whether sword, shield, or something unprecedented.
Weapons possess multiple states and undergo three reforging processes to achieve full potential. The OverForge talisman temporarily amplifies both weapon and user capabilities, though at considerable personal cost.
Branches of the Family
Igneous
Specializes in containment, managing both Fell Prison and the Manor. Members excel as fighters trained in weakening and containing adversaries. "Despite all this, Igneous tends to be outcast from the rest of the family." Currently, the branch faces devastation—the Manor and Prison are destroyed, with few survivors remaining from a recent massacre.
Sage
Focused on mystical arts and spiritual threats. Operates the Academy where Born Fells receive foundational magical training. Members hunt spectral entities, spirits, Yoki, and demonic possessions using specialized spells and talismans. Sage members are frequently perceived as paranoid due to their profession's nature.
Atamai
Research-focused branch that explores unknown territories and operates the Fell Grand Archive. Members possess exceptional analytical capabilities, identifying minerals and creatures with remarkable precision while developing new technologies. Other branches view Atamai members as unconventional and unsettling.
Dao
Exclusively emphasizes combat mastery, protects critical locations including Mount One. Members represent "the strongest in the family, and pride themselves on their strength but often tend to work alone." Despite their independent nature, Dao members maintain profound mutual respect and organize family gatherings and festivals. The broader family recognizes Dao as the most capable and proven hunters.
Notable Figures
Artemis Igneous Fell and Xavier Igneous Fell: Twin prodigies originally from the Sage branch who crafted over one hundred unique talismans across their twenty-year tenure. Following their father Damien Sage Fell's death during a failed expedition, the twins transferred to the Igneous branch during its earlier, less prominent period.
